A Ray of Light from Pune
It was pure coincidence that
led us to the good fortune. Mr. Raya, one of BKS Iyengar Guruji's rays of light,
arrived in Rishikesh to teach at the International Yoga Festival, annually held
at the banks of the holy river Ganga. Thanks to Guruji's inspiration and
blessings, Raya also gave evening classes at our Yoga Center.
Raya has been
practicing yoga since a very young age and now teaches the Beginner and
Intermediate classes at the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune.
Evidently, his inspiration is Guruji and he reflects a good balance
between Guruji's philosophy and practise.
Raya has a great
passion for teaching. The enjoyment he gets from it is probably the
secret to the incredible energy that accompanies each one of his
classes. Thanks to this energy and the way his lessons flow, each one of
us could clearly relate to the variety of aspects and concepts that were
revealed to us. His simplicity and sensitivity made our understanding
clear.
In each class, he
aimed to teach us that yoga asanas are not something to be performed
mechanically. We should respect our bodies and work with care,
gentleness, awareness, sincerity and intelligence. He emphasized on
performing each asana with lightness and stability. Small details, which
are usually forgotten, were mentioned and they helped us to reach new
heights in our practice. The classes were fascinating and managed to
awaken our curiosity to further explore the magnificent world of yoga
asanas.
For sure, the
information and insights that were shared with us will further
contribute to our knowledge and will be realised as great wisdom at the
right moment in our life.
