A Class with Zubin
Zubin arrived in Rishikesh
along with the winter cold and lit the fire of yoga inside our hearts. Zubin, a
dedicated student, who follows the path of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, has been
teaching Yoga for more than 12 years. He was exposed to Yoga at a quite young
age and today has his own Iyengar Yoga Centre "Iyengar Yogabhyasa", located in
central Mumbai. Although
he only conducted two classes he nourished us with information that will always
be useful to our practice and we were truly inspired by him.
Zubin , as a rajasic teacher, asked us
not to think but to be in the moment, to listen and afterwards apply his
teachings during our self -practice. During class we could be sattvic
students, as it was the teacher's job to think.
The sequence was not the main focus since
Zubin's aim was to awaken our awareness to the intelligence of our
bodies. He reminded us that to practice yoga does not mean doing the
asana as a simple action rather as a long process of penetrating inside
each cell and making it work with intelligence.
He emphasized that yoga should be done
mindfully; we should try to reach even difficult goals for which a lot
of will power is needed.
Zubin made us understand that in each
asana there should be Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharna,
Dhyana and Samadhi.
He talked of the importance of Mr. B.K.S
Iyengar's life-long research from which a method of yoga has evolved
which helps both healthy and disabled people to achieve balance.
